Base 10 Blocks

Some students are looking for “base ten blocks” to use in math learning activities. Our spiffy Ellison Letter Machine is able to cut different sizes and counts easily. Bring in some foam paper for sturdy, colorful results!

Inspiration

We’re happy to see that students have been using the programs Inspiration and Kidspiration on our lab computers to complete various class assignments. Just a reminder that the command “file>export>graphics file>jpeg” creates a jpeg image of your work, which is lets you insert your project into other documents (like Word and PowerPoint). It’s also a handier format to post to Web CT!

Folklore and Fairy Tales

I hear folk and fairy tales are next! (see entry below) They’re found at ”398” in the dewey decimal system, and we have hundreds of them there.

Historical Fiction

A handful of students are looking for works of historical fiction in our collection - stories ”that take place during a notable period in history, and usually during a significant event in that period.” (I used wikipedia for that.)

We had luck finding examples by “shelf-reading” the spines of our fiction collection. Titles like Almost to Freedom by Vaunda Nelson and Hanukkah at Valley Forge by Stephen Krensky were dead giveaways.

Summer Projects

We have kept ourselves busy down here in the Curriculum Library. Please notice our new big bulletin boards and our hallway sign! We even have a comfy chair hidden in the back. If you or someone you know has a distinctive (horribly interesting) light fixture you want to donate as our reading light, then please see one of us.

We have let our cadre of WebGnomes loose with new ideas and new technologies, like this blog. We are working on a library-wide wiki web and really integrating del.icio.us into how we manage online resources.
